Canon announces the flagship EOS R1

The Canon EOS R1, the company's upcoming flagship mirrorless camera, has an official development announcement from Canon's Imaging Division. The statement, while brief, does confirm that this much awaited model would really be released in 2024.

For the EOS R SYSTEM, the EOS R1 will be the first flagship model with an RF mount, catering to professional photographers and videographers. It's anticipated to improve still image and video performance over the current flagship, the EOS R3, by a substantial margin.

The EOS R1 is rumored to have a resolution of 24MP to 30MP and either a first-generation global shutter sensor or a next-generation stacked sensor1. It is anticipated to provide at least 40 frames per second in burst shooting, which is a notable improvement over the EOS R6 Mark II.

Sales are expected to begin in December 2024, following the complete announcement in October 2024. The EOS R1 might not, however, be available in time for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which would break the custom of having flagship sports cameras accessible for every Olympic Games.

Canon hasn't disclosed many specifics on the EOS R1, but this statement verifies that it is being developed and will soon be released. More information regarding the features and capabilities of Canon's new flagship mirrorless camera is eagerly awaited by photographers and videographers.
