Lenovo Unveils World's First Transparent Laptop

Lenovo is setting new standards with a transparent laptop that will likely be unveiled at MWC 2024.

Introduction

With the creation of the first transparent laptop in history, Lenovo is once again pushing the boundaries of PC design. This device will probably be on display at the upcoming Mobile World Congress (MWC) in 2024. Lenovo's upcoming notebook, which resembles a slab of glass joined to a glass keyboard, may start a new trend in the personal computer industry.

Lenovo may use transparent display panels from Samsung or LG, which were shown at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2024 earlier this year. Windowsreport provides us with an early look at Lenovo's next big innovation.

Display Type

According to leaked renders, Lenovo's transparent laptop, which will be part of the ThinkBook lineup, has a bezel-less design that gives the impression that it is a slab of glass. Although it is translucent, light can still pass through it because it is not transparent. Furthermore, the laptop appears to have a digital keyboard that may have capacitive buttons and still provide the tactile experience of pressing physical keys. The keyboard is powered by a motor, much like the trackpad on a contemporary MacBook.

Technical Specifications

Although the machine's specifications are unknown, it is most likely going to run Windows 11 and be built around Intel's most recent Ultra Core series of processors, making it the first AI-ready PC with a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU).

Availability

It's unclear at this time whether Lenovo plans to sell this device or if it's merely a concept, much like the Moto Rizr, a phone that had a rollable display that was unveiled at the MWC the previous year.

Although transparent display technology is not new in and of itself, there were several obstacles for brands to overcome to implement it, particularly in cost. Large display tech companies appear to have finally achieved a breakthrough, and shortly, transparent display panels may appear in a wider range of form factors. The launch of LG's renowned OLED T transparent TV later this year has been confirmed.

Previous Innovations of Lenovo

Innovations are a key component in showcasing the company's R&D capabilities, and Lenovo is renowned for creating some of the first computing devices of their kind, such as the Lenovo Yoga Book 9i, a laptop with two displays, and the ThinkPad X1 Fold (review), which was the first foldable laptop in history.

Conclusion

This is all speculation for now. We don't know much about this concept laptop from the leaked photos. To find out how Lenovo's rumoured transparent laptop might revolutionise computing, we will have to wait until it is unveiled at MWC in 2024.
