Sigma finally delivers its first Canon RF lens after a six-year wait.
Today is the long-awaited day! The first-ever RF lens from Sigma for the Canon EOS R system has just released.
The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN | C is the company's first Canon RF mount lens, and it was ultimately released six years after the EOS R system was introduced.
The Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN | C is specifically an RF-S lens, meaning it is made for EOS R bodies with an APS-C sensor, such the Canon EOS R7, R10, R50, and R100, while it may be used in crop mode on full-frame EOS R cameras. It will physically fit any RF mount camera.
This lens is essentially a conventional trinity lens because it has an equivalent focal length of 28.8-80mm, a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture, and weather sealing. However, because of its Contemporary designation (the "C" in the name), it is both portable and powerful.
It should be mentioned that this lens is an existing lens that has been offered for Sony E, Fujifilm X, and L-Mount cameras since 2022 and is not specifically made for the RF mount.
As a result, it has nearly identical specs and an optical formula, with three aspherical lenses and a super-low dispersion lens among its ten groups of 13 components.
This implies that it also bears some of the current optical ills, like fringing, drab corner sharpness, and significant distortion, however the latter is fixed in-camera.
