2024 camera rumors: what cameras can be expected, both officially and unofficially?

Rumors about cameras are spreading like wildfire! These are the most reliable rumors and reports regarding upcoming events.

At this point, the rumors about Fujifilm are as trustworthy as a Japanese train, with a lot of talk around the water cooler turning out to be accurate.

The Fujifilm X100VI, which was released shortly before CP+ 2024, as had been widely rumored, is on track to become the most pre-ordered camera ever produced. The X100 series is also reviving the compact camera market, which many had assumed was dying.

What more is in store for the creative powerhouse Fujifilm, given the rumors that it plans to release even more cameras this year? The company is known for producing some of the best medium format cameras as well as some of the best instant cameras.

Fujifilm GFX 100S II

Many believed that the GFX 100 and GFX 100S lines had been combined with the release of the Fujifilm GFX 100 II, but it looks like the company will be releasing a follow-up to its second-generation 100MP camera.

This would make sense because Fujifilm appears to be clearing inventory before making an announcement, as evidenced by the $1,600 US and £1,000 UK discounts on the original GFX 100S. I'm not sure what the 100S II could provide that the 100 II doesn't already have; unless Fujifilm decides to make it a more affordable option by removing features like in-body stabilization in order to reduce the price. Seeing what occurs this month will be interesting to watch!

Fujifilm X-T50

Fujifilm has historically introduced "big brother, little brother" iterations of its X-T series. Fujifilm X-T1 and X-T10, X-T2 and X-T20, X-T3 and X-T30 (and X-T30 II) were among the models we had. however, with the release of the Fujifilm X-T4.

Although a new member of this family hasn't been seen in over two years, I believe the market would be delighted to see a more compact and simplified version of the excellent Fujifilm X-T5, or perhaps an X-T60 to go along with the new X-T6.

Instax Mini 99

After a decade of waiting, it looks like Fujifilm will finally update the Instax Mini 90. And maybe there's some irony in the rumors that its new features will make it feel even more antiquated, considering how old the camera already is!

There are rumors that the Instax Mini 99 will come with a variety of filter effects, such as light leaks and washed-out red and green tones, giving the impression that the photos were taken with a fantastic plastic Lomo camera. which appears to contradict the impeccable print quality that Instax is renowned for, but would undoubtedly introduce a novel aspect to the brand.

No more X-Txxx and X-Ex entry-level cameras?

There is disagreement over the future of Fujifilm's entry-level cameras, primarily due to disagreements over entry-level camera philosophy within the industry. Since vlogging cameras are the new entry-level cameras, it is becoming more widely acknowledged that traditional entry-level cameras are a dying breed.

What about the Fujifilm X-T200 and X-E4's successors, then? Who you listen to matters.

When questioned about the X-E series, Japanese executives told DP Review, "We haven't lost focus on any of our existing range, so we're always thinking about what will be next for us." "If we have decided to stop entry-level products such as X-T200 or X-E4, it is because it is not promising as a market," a French executive told Phototrend.

It does seem as though there may be a countdown on these lines when one reads between the lines. (It has long been speculated that Fujifilm wasn't actually producing these two camera lines; instead, they were outsourced to manufacturer Xacti.)

Fujifilm X-Pro4

Could this be the end of the line for the cherished rangefinder series, since there are no signs of the Fujifilm X-Pro4 and reports that the manufacturer has ceased production of the Fujifilm X-Pro3?

The X-Pro3's rear screen was meant to encourage you to "rely more on your instincts," so Fujifilm took a risk by swapping it out for a "hidden" one that you had to flip out. Undoubtedly, this change was not well received by everyone. And while Fujifilm hasn't made an official announcement, several retailers have the X-Pro3 listed as discontinued. And is the oddball X-Pro line still in demand, given how amazing the X-T5 and X-H2 are as cameras?

Instax Wide 400

Fujifilm has been updating its Instax Mini range continuously, but it hasn't given much thought to its bigger brother. Since the release of the Instax Wide 300 in 2015, there haven't been any new Wide cameras—with the exception of the 2020 release of the paintjob in the color toffee.

But the introduction of the Instax Link Wide printer indicates that Fujifilm is giving the series a second look. Might we see a new Instax Wide soon? It makes perfect sense, though.

The decision from Fujifilm

GFX, APS-C, and Instax are the three areas where Fujifilm strengthened its positions last year. We fully anticipate that the X100 series will be the next area of interest!
