Sony Unveils World's Lightest G MasterTM FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS Lens

Sony India is happy to announce the launch of the G MasterTM FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS, the lightest 300 mm telephoto prime lens in the world. This 35 mm full-frame α™ (Alpha™) E-mount lens has a maximum aperture of F2.8 and is compatible with the SEL300F28GM product name.

This lens provides both the fast, accurate AF (autofocus) performance that is the trademark of the G master and the ultimate detailing. Additionally, its outstanding weight balance and lightweight design (around 1470g without the tripod mount) enable you to handheld shoot and capture crisp, dynamic, and decisive moments, such as those of fast-moving sports or nimble animals.

When combined with the concurrently announced Alpha 9 III (to be released soon), high-speed continuous shooting at up to 120 frames per second with AF/AE tracking is feasible. It is possible to follow subjects with great precision even when their movements are complex and varied.

It minimizes photographer fatigue during extended handheld shooting sessions by lightening the load on the shooter, making it the perfect match for lightweight camera bodies. You can shoot in the telephoto range of up to 600 mm (or 900 mm when using an APS-C camera) with it if you have an optional teleconverter.

"Since Sony revealed that they are working on a 300mm lens, photographers all around the world have responded incredibly well and are excitedly awaiting its arrival. According to Mukesh Srivastava, Head of Digital Imaging Business at Sony India, "With the launch of this new lens, we aim to cater to the diverse needs and shooting scenarios of both professional and advanced amateur photographers."

1. The G Master telephoto lens, which produces stunning bokeh and high-definition images of pivotal moments
Using Sony's state-of-the-art technology, the G Master's stunning bokeh and high-resolution performance bring the subject to life, and its accurate autofocus catches critical moments in sports, news broadcasts, events, and wildlife photography.

Three Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements and one ED glass element are used in an inventive optical design that efficiently suppresses chromatic aberration and achieves outstanding resolution and contrast throughout the whole frame. Excellent contrast and resolution are preserved in the image borders, enabling more adaptable cropping and editing.

The 300 mm focal length and F2.8 maximum aperture of the lens combine to provide the beautiful, creamy bokeh that is a characteristic of G Master design. This allows for the use of a shallow depth of field to highlight subjects against the background. To maximize bokeh quality, each lens is precisely calibrated during the manufacturing process. A circular aperture device with eleven blades helps create smooth ball bokeh.

2. High-performance AF that captures dynamic moments and high-speed continuous shooting with AE/AF tracking up to 120 frames per second
The combination of the two latest XD (extreme dynamic) Linear Motors and control algorithms provides high-speed, high-precision, and low-vibration AF performance. When combined with Alpha 9 III (to be announced), it enables high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second. This allows you to capture dynamic subjects without missing a moment’s opportunity, even when shooting scenes where the subject moves quickly, such as sports or animals, or scenes where the subject moves erratically, such as at events. In addition, high AF performance is demonstrated even when the separately sold teleconverter3 is attached.

3. Outstanding mobility and pleasant operation to assist field personnel
The FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS is the lightest lens in its class thanks to extensive weight reduction techniques; it weighs about 1470g (without the tripod attachment) and was developed with weight balancing in mind.

Durable magnesium alloy is used in the internal lens barrel to achieve excellent resilience and lightweight. Because the weight is distributed evenly throughout the lens barrel, it is extremely stable and enables precise and quick panning when filming handheld. Furthermore, you can shoot dynamic scenes with accuracy thanks to MODE3, which optimizes the image stabilization algorithm and offers improved viewfinder stability.

Additionally, you can designate "preset focus" to the function ring when utilizing the Alpha 9 III (which will be shown), which enables you to swiftly move the focus to any location. Additionally, the camera has a comfortable operation that facilitates professional photography, such as four focus hold buttons that let you designate your preferred camera body functions.

Availability

All Sony Center locations, Alpha Flagship stores, Sony authorized dealers, e-commerce sites (Amazon and Flipkart), and significant electronics retailers in India will carry the new FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS.
